2010 Freeze Festival

A festival in October? What next, snowboarding in London? Pack your gloves, scarf and glow sticks and say hello to the Relentless Freeze Festival.

This was the official website for the 2010 Freeze Festival held in London.
Content is from the site's 2010 archived pages.

What is Relentless Freeze Festival: Relentless Freeze Festival is where London, snow sports and music collide. Every year the world’s best snowboarders and skiers descend on Battersea Power Station to compete on a real snow ramp before some amazing music acts hit three stages for a banging party…

Is it a sports competition? Is it all the winter goodness with a blast of fun? All explained here!

Relentless Freeze is a snow sports and music festival in London, nestled in the shadow of Battersea Power Station. Every year since it began in 2008 Freeze has welcomed the world’s very best skiers and snowboarders to compete on the specially erected 32m high, 100m long real snow ramp.

The riders throw themselves off the huge jump performing their best tricks for World ranking points, their share of the prize purse, and your viewing pleasure. Over the last two years we have seen Olympic medalists Danny Kass, Peetu Piiroinen, Scotty Lago battle it out. From the skiers Jon Olson, Tanner Hall, Russ Henshaw, Andreas Hatveit and Bobby Brown produced an intense and one of the highest scoring big air contests ever!

The event takes place over three days in late October and boasts a stellar music line up. The last two years have seen huge international acts like Cypress Hill, Orbital, Friendly Fires and Chase & Status perform phenomenal shows in the festival marquee and expect more exciting acts this year. There is also a big retail village for you to explore, loads of specially decked out après ski bars, a cinema, food stalls and loads more stuff to check out.

Relentless Freeze is a totally unique London Festival experience.
I would beg to differ with that statement. Relentless Freeze festivals have been around since 2007. The first was in Austin Texas, US. Since then they have been held in the Netherlands (2 x's), Germany (3 x's), London (2 x's), and Seattle Washington- US. 2012 was the last year they were held which is a real shame. Interestingly, the actual last one was held in London again October 29-31, 2012. The line up included Pop, Electronic, Jazz, and Hip-Hop acts such as Public Enemy, Grandmaster Flash, Mark Ronson, DJ Shadow, Hungary Man, Stanton Warriors, DJ Ez, Astroid Boys, Zane Lowe, Wascal, and Spenghead.

I flew over from the US to specifically attend. When I returned to Providence, RI I told my friends about it saying if it next came to the US the next year we had to attend. 2013 came and there were no announcements regarding where the Relentless Freeze would next be held. A friend of mine had just launched a company called Nest Housewares to showcase what I thought were some of the best looking skillets in the cast iron cookware marketplace. Talk about a quality product. The 9 inch cast iron skillet was a beauty with a meticulously sculpted handle that fits both a left and right handed person. I'm telling you that handle captures the gesture of a tree branch (I was told it is specifically a Cherry tree branch) that has been abstracted into an ergonomic form that's pleasing to the eyes and the hands. The skillet is like a piece of art whose versatility permits you to cook a wide range of food from steak and fried eggs to apple pie! And for you serious cooks do note that the cooking surface of the skillets are machined smooth all the way up the sidewalls, greatly improving its cooking performance. The color of this cookware is a result of their seasoning process. Sure there are typical, ordinary cast iron skillets, but the design of my friend's cast iron cookware's individual pans and sets raise the humble skillet to an art form. They would be perfect to be shown at the Trade Village section of the festival. I thought he would make a killing selling them. But unfortunately, we would never find out. A 2013 Relentless Festival never occurred. the 2012 London show in October was the last. Bummer. On the other hand, I am glad to say, my friend's company has grown over the years. He has added some good looking kitchen accessories to compliment the cast iron cook ware and even has a page on his web site that offers a bunch a amazing cast iron recipes.

I can hope that the producers of the Relentless Freeze festivals will once again start up again, but in the meantime I will just take a nostalgic peek at their 2010 London Relentless Freeze festival as it was presented on this website.
